Workshop: 1-4 pm

We will have an informal workshop Saturday afternoon at the Marys River Grange  Hall in Philomath, where some old-time popular dances will be taught. Come learn these favorites and dance them with confidence during the party. If you have any specific dances you would like to learn, email the Bucys and they will put it on the list of dances to teach.

Party: begins at 7 pm

The $8 covers the workshop and and the Party.

Hoolyeh and Friends Folkdance Party

When: Saturday, April 30, 2011

Where: Marys River Grange Hall

www.marysrivergrange.org From Corvallis, take Highway 20/34 to Philomath. At the second light, turn left on 13th Street. Turn right on Grange Hall Road. The Mary’s River Grange is just before Greengable Gardens.

Time: 7 pm until ? (we dare you to dance all night)

Who: All past and present Hoolyehs, their parents, kids and friends and anyone who likes to folkdance!

Cost: $8 at the door

Bring: Snacks, treats, refreshments, drinks and stories. Remember our afterparties at the grange??!! -bring your memories to share!

This year we danced at the Marys River Grange Hall. It was plenty large enough for all to dance, but cozy enough to never feel alone. Lots of food, laughs and tired legs.

Lets do this again, at the same place, next year.

WOW! What a great turnout – close to 200 people! Lots of dancers, lots of spectators, colorful costumes, yummy snacks, and non-stop music. The dances ran for 5 hours straight with a much needed break about half way through when the Jr. Hoolyehs performed. At midnight the last dance played and there were STILL 50+ people on their feet, actually dancing!This probably isn’t a big deal for those under 30, but for the over 50 crowd, we are very proud of ourselves. The sore feet and stiff muscles the next day was more than worth it. There just wasn’t enough time to do all the fun dances AND visit with long time friends AND catch up with folk dance buddies from 35+ years ago. Many parents of the 1970 Hoolyeh dancers watched with big smiles on their faces, recognizing many of the ‘teenagers’ and in awe at how fast 35 years have flown by.
